I raise a few Berkshires every summer, currently 10. I started raising young feeder pigs because I could not get the quality of pork, (tender and juicy, with good natural flavor), that I remember from my youth. I am also concerned about all the medicated feed that is being fed to animals today that end up in our meat department at the local grocery store. As I have full time employment off the farm, I only raised a couple of pigs to begin with, but as friends shared our pork roast or chops off the grill, they started asking to buy some of our meat. As demand merits it, I will keep adding a few more pigs to the lot every spring. I feed the pigs Vita Plus Non-Medicated Pig Grower, (and add at a rate of 3%, diatomaceous earth for a natural de-wormer), and all the alfalfa and garden scraps they can eat.
Below you will find the price of the pork, expected weight at processing, what is currently available, and when the next lot of pigs will be going to the meat processors, (Hoesly's Meats in New Glarus, WI).
Price - (Starting 6/1/22 prices will be raising $0.25 do to the price of fuel, corn and fertilizer.)
